A terrorist attack at a military parade in Tehran, Iran has killed 25 people and wounded 60 more. Hassan Rouhani, Iran´s President has stated that the U.S. Western allies provided safe havens for ¨Arab Separatists” who have claimed responsibility for the attack. Rouhani referred to close American allies like Saudi Arabia and the UAE as countries responsible for the attack in his country.
The attack started when terrorists disguised as soldiers walking in the parade opened fire. This is the largest reported Iranian terrorist attack to occur in over a decade. The Separatists blame the Persian-dominated government for discriminating against their small ethnic group. At least 8 Iranian Revolutionary Guard members have been killed and that number is expected to rise.
The U.S. has responded by condemning the attack. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated in an interview with Fox News’s Chris Wallace, ¨I wish that Iran would focus on keeping its own people secure, instead of causing insecurity all around the world.¨
“All of those small mercenary countries that we see in this region are backed by America. It is Americans who instigate them and provide them with necessary means to commit these crimes.¨
Hassan Rouhani, President of Iran
